The province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health says they are looking at ways to ease the burden of the omicron variant on daycares.
Confirmed positive cases have forced numerous childcare centres across the province to either partially or fully shut down.
The isolation time is 10 days, and if there are multiple exposures, children and staff could be left in isolation for extended periods, which is drawing criticism from many parents.
Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says she is aware of the concerns and they are working on finding ways to keep the risk low, while preventing as much disruption as possible to daycares.
She says it’s a “delicate balance” they need to strike, as daycares are different from schools in that most kids are not vaccinated and not wearing masks.
But they are looking at how they can improve the situation moving forward.
