The lawyer for an inmate who had his teeth pulled by a correctional officer says his client is suffering from PTSD as a result of the incident.
A Nova Scotia dentist has admitted allowing the guard to do the extractions at a Gander clinic while another guard took a video of it, which he posted on social media.
It happened on October 16, 2020.
Dr. Louis Bourget has already been disciplined by dental boards in this province and Nova Scotia for letting it all happen while the inmate was sedated.
Lawyer Bob Buckingham says the bizarre incident has had lasting impacts on his client, Blair Harris.
He says at this stage he is still traumatized at the thought of going to the dentist, adding he’s also exhibiting signs of post-traumatic stress syndrome.
Buckingham has launched a civil lawsuit against the province and those involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, the dentist and one guard, Ron McDonald, also face criminal charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon in the case.
They’re due for arraignment in Gander Supreme Court on March 2nd.
