Some local environmentalists are applauding the minister’s decision not to move forward with Synergy’s waste-to-energy proposal for the Lewisporte area.
David Ellis, the Chair of the Council of Canadians, Avalon Chapter, calls it “excellent news.”
He says it’s obvious the minister was listening to environmentalists and local residents.
Angela Carter, a member of the provincial government’s Net-Zero Advisory Council, calls it a good decision.
“We don’t need to take Europeans’ garbage,” says Carter who added that transporting garbage across the North Atlantic is “not a climate solution.”
