Newfoundland and Labrador’s population is declining, but the PC Opposition believes there are solutions that can help the province rebound.
Chris Tibbs is calling for a Joint Federal-Provincial Population Recovery Plan to address the situation.
He says the federal government needs to do whatever it can to address the problem, pointing to potential financial aid as an option, as well as extending work visas as possible counter-measures.
At the provincial level, Tibbs highlights options that would reduce the financial strain on people living here, such as removing taxes on fuels to combat the record-high prices being seen lately.
He also suggests putting in a “community benefits agreement” to ensure residents of the province get hired on for jobs here, as well as addressing doctor shortages and increasing mental health supports.
