The leader of the official opposition is calling on the Prime Minister to move forward with the Bay du Nord project.
In a letter penned to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, David Brazil affirmed that the project would benefit not only the economy of this province, but that of the nation as well.
Brazil went on to call for the project to be “greenlit” without delay, arguing it would be the “height of hypocrisy” to deny Newfoundland and Labrador opportunities to develop petroleum resources when other Canadians benefit immensely from their use.
He added that the project would in no way jeopardize the commitment to achieve a net-zero greenhouse gas emission target by 2050, noting that Bay du Nord would be the most carbon-efficient development of its scale in Canada.
“Prime Minister Trudeau must recognize the importance of our oil and gas industry to our province, to the many families who rely on this industry for their future,” said Brazil.
