A Torbay man is facing more than one-hundred charges in connection with a suspected weapons trafficking operation on the Northeast Avalon.
Police confirm they arrested 41-year-old Scott Joseph Waterman last week without incident.
He’s been in custody ever since, and faces 126 charges that range from trafficking in weapons, possessing prohibited and restricted weapons—or guns acquired through previous crimes—careless use of firearms, and the list goes on.
Waterman was convicted eight years ago of trying to import four stun guns and a can of pepper spray into Canada.
At the time, he claimed they were just novelty items from a Florida flea market, but admitted that trying to ship them home was “wrong” and “stupid.”
He was handed a conditional sentence, which included a 10-year ban on possessing any firearms, which would still be in force today.
While the new charges against Waterman are posted on the public court docket, police are so far saying little about the case, citing their ongoing investigation. However, the RNC says more information could be released in the coming days.
Waterman is due back in court today for a bail hearing.
