Emergency service workers often see the need for blood firsthand, and today they are answering the call once again to help save more lives.
The second-annual Sirens for Life blood drive took place today at the Canadian Blood Services Clinic on Wicklow Street in St. John’s.
The RNC, RCMP, St. John’s Regional, Corrections Officers, paramedics and people from the public all took part in the drive.
Just one person who is seriously injured in a crash could need as many as 50 blood donations.
RCMP Assistant Commissioner, Ches Parsons is one of many who donated blood, and says there is a place in their heart for this type of thing.
He says they go to some scenes and realize there is a dire need for blood. It’s outstanding to see the comradery shown by the uniform services to come out and donate, says Parsons.
RNC Chief Joe Boland says it’s just another part of what they do to try and keep the community healthy.
He says everyone has a busy life, but it’s important to take the time to donate as you never know when it could be you or a loved one who needs blood.
