Another ship is adrift off the coast of the island.
Just after midnight Friday, the Coast Guard was alerted that the bulk carrier MV Comanche’s engine had failed and was drifting 19 nautical miles off Cape St. Mary’s.
Two Coast Guard vessels – the Cygnus and the Terry Fox – and three large tug vessels have stabilized the situation. Two smaller tugs contracted by the owner are now helping the vessel.
No injuries or pollution has been reported.
Environmental response specialists are in contact with the owner to ensure a response plan for the vessel is developed.
