The suspect in a murder in the Waterford Valley area of St. John’s last year made his first court appearance this morning.
26-year-old Sheldon Hibbs was picked up one week ago, without incident, by police in Calgary.
It followed a Canada-wide warrant that was issued for his arrest early last month.
Hibbs was escorted back to St. John’s this week and appeared in court today by teleconference from the Lockup.
He faces a single charge of second-degree murder in the death of 68-year-old Michael King, whose body was found on a trail between the Waterford Hospital and Topsail Road on May 30 of last year.
Hibbs is in the process of seeking legal aid and being transferred to HMP pending his next court appearance on March 31.
