Residents of central Newfoundland may be surprised to learn that an earthquake struck an area near Buchans just over a week ago.
Earthquakes Canada is reporting a 2.5 magnitude quake approximately 27 km northeast of Buchans on Saturday, March 12.
The quake originated about 2 km underground. A magnitude of 2.5 or less is not usually felt but can be picked up by a seismograph. Millions of earthquakes of that size are recorded around the world annually.
