The Memorial University Students Union recently had to briefly close its doors due to COVID cases in its offices, which is having an impact on the work it does with the student community.
The Union has about eight people working in its offices – five executives and three full-time staff.
Recently, half of those people were sidelined by COVID, resulting in MUNSU having to close its doors for a time earlier this week.
They have come up with a contingency plan moving forward, noting that at least two executives and one staff member are required to open their doors.
Executive Director of External Affairs, Communications and Research, Hilary Hennessey, says the COVID situation makes it very hard for MUNSU to do the work it needs to do, as a lot of it is usually done face-to-face.
She says everything is by appointment, which is frustrating for some, but that’s all they can do at the moment to keep people safe.
