The Opposition Shadow Minister for Health and Community Services is calling for continuous glucose monitoring devices (CGMs) to be made readily available to those in the province living with diabetes.
CGMs allow patients direct access to health information that helps enhance quality of life, while also allowing individuals to make their own decisions to manage the disease.
Paul Dinn says the use of these devices is one way government can take a proactive approach to healthcare.
He says while the Health Accord has provided a long-term path forward, there are areas that can be addressed immediately, arguing that a healthier overall population will place fewer demands on the system.
Dinn says while we all hope for a day when diabetes is a thing of the past, until that day, it is important for government to support patients on their journey.
The Canadian Diabetes Association says this province has the highest rates of Diabetes in the country, with an estimated 35 per cent of the population living with diabetes or prediabetes.
