Months after government was originally supposed to have taken possession, two new long-term care homes are finally opening in Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor.
Formal ceremonies involving area MHAs, representatives of Central Health, municipal leaders, and Premier Andrew Furey are taking place today.
Premier Furey says the new facilities will include an outdoor therapy space, accessible wandering paths, a hair salon, a multi-purpose room, and a hospitality suite for families with loved ones in palliative care.
Each facility will represent 60 new long-term care beds and a total of 155 full-time equivalent positions.
