The latest information released from Abacus Data show the federal Liberals and Tories are still in a virtual tie, despite a turbulent week for the Prime Minister.
Despite the recent brownface/blackface photo controversy involving Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the majority of respondents said the news either didn’t bother them, or they didn’t like it but Trudeau apologized and they are ready to move on. 24 per cent said they were offended by the Prime Minister’s actions, and the incident changed their opinions of him for the worse.
Despite this, when asked who the preferred choice is to lead the country, Justin Trudeau still holds the majority of the popular vote at 36 per cent, Conservative leader Andrew Scheer sits at 30 per cent, the Green Party’s Elizabeth May and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh are tied at 14 per cent, and Maxime Bernier of the People’s Party garnered five per cent of the vote.
The Tories still lead the voting for the party as a whole however at 35 per cent, beating the Liberals by just one point. The NDP are next at 14 per cent, the Green party is at 12 per cent, the Bloc Quebecois hold four per cent of the vote and the People’s Party is just one point behind at three per cent.
