There are reports that Tesla has signed what’s being called a secret multi-year deal with Vale for the supply of nickel.

Vale has a nickel mine at Voisey’s Bay in Labrador.

Business market news leader, Bloomberg is reporting that an agreement, which has not yet been announced, has been reached for the supply of nickel from Canada, to avoid Russia, one of the world’s largest producers of nickel.

Tesla’s Elon Musk famously put a call out for environmentally sensitive nickel to help in the manufacture of electric vehicle batteries a few years ago via social media. Provincial energy minister Andrew Parsons quickly responded to the request on Twitter, bringing Musk’s attention to this province.

As of last week, Parsons was unable to provide an update on any developments related to Musk’s call and the Voisey’s Bay mining development.
