Electrical permit fees in the capital city are officially going up as of this summer.
The city says the increases are to help bring the inspection program up to a cost-neutral status, whereas now the cost to do the necessary inspections is more than what the permits are bringing in.
The cost of the minimum permit for residential renovations, extensions, and repairs will increase by 20 per cent from $60.50 to $72.60.
The more expensive permits will see larger increases, ranging from 36 per cent to a 185 per cent increase.
The cost of permits for new dwelling construction are also going up by 20 per cent across the board.
The new fees take effect on July 1.
