A new Narrative Research survey, conducted for the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, finds the majority of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who participated are in support of the Bay du Nord project. The survey was released just prior to the start of today’s virtual 2022 Scotiabank CAPP Energy Symposium.
The online survey involving 411 Newfoundlanders and Labradorians was conducted between March 16 and the 21. It found that eight in ten – or 79 percent – of those who are aware of Bay du Nord express some level of support for the project while just seven percent oppose it. 68 percent of those who participated expressed concern with the delay in the federal environmental assessment approval of the project.
85 percent of those surveyed agree that provinces like Newfoundland and Labrador can help Europe by providing reliable and ethically produced oil.
CAPP President Paul Barnes says they’re pleased with the results of the survey which confirms what they already know about local support for Bay du Nord.
Methodology: These results are results of a survey conducted by Narrative Research, on behalf of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP). This survey was conducted online from March 16-21, 2022 with 411 Newfoundland and Labrador residents 18 or older that are members of an online general population panel. Quotas and weights based on the 2016 Census, by gender, age, and region, were used to reflect these population characteristics in the province. As a non-probability sample (i.e., a panel sample where residents have joined a panel to share their opinions), and in accordance with CRIC Public Opinion Research Standards, a margin of error is not applied.
