Patients of doctors who leave or retire are surprised to learn that they end up having to pay over $100 to get their medical records from a private company in Ontario.
Those records, the property of the physician, would normally be handed over to the patient in such circumstances but a few callers to VOCM Open Line Wednesday morning revealed that it doesn’t always happen that way. In fact, a third party is being used, likely making a profit in the process.
Roger Pike told host Paddy Daly this morning that he now has to pay $121 plus the 15 percent tax to get his records from DOCUdavit Solutions of Ontario plus a similar amount for his spouse.
He lives only a short distance away from his doctor’s office and would had picked up his file had he known.
