Residents of Labrador West are doing up their placards preparing for a protest this weekend in an effort to get answers on why the rec centre in Wabush has been shut down.

The Mike Adam Recreational Complex had been open for decades but was closed by the Town of Wabush permanently because of money issues.

Chris Budgell says that facility is very important to the region as they now have to go out of province to access swimming facilities.

For example, she says the swim team has to use the pool in Fermont, Quebec and while they have been very accommodating, it’s not a long-term solution.

The protest is set for Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. and she’s inviting everyone – child and adult – to turn out.
