Among the funding announced in this week’s budget was an additional $17 million for the RCMP in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The provincial portion of the funding provided for the RCMP in this province had been frozen for the last decade. There had been calls to address the issue amid concerns over understaffing and underfunding.
Finance Minister Siobhan Coady says the money will be used to help with staffing and equipment.
