A government decision to set up two virtual ERs in central Newfoundland will complement existing services says Health Minister John Haggie, not replace them.
A virtual ER is now set up in Port Saunders in the Western Health region due to what the health authority calls a temporary physician shortage at the Rufus Guinchard Health Centre.
$3 million dollars has been set aside in the provincial budget for two virtual ER services in the central region to “assist with the provision of urgent care. ”
Health Minister John Haggie says the two virtual ERs announced in the budget will enhance existing services.
