The Salvation Army presented a new Emergency Disaster Services mobile unit and a garage to house it to the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay today.
The vehicle will be used to service Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Upper Lake Melville and the rest of Labrador to prepare and serve meals and to provide emotional support to vulnerable populations during emergencies as needed.
Steven Hynes, the divisional director of Emergency Disaster Services, says the ability to meet people where they are allows for a deeper community presence.
NL Hydro, the Rotary Club and International Grenfell Association helped raise more than $400,000 for the initiative, which is also supported by the federal and provincial governments.
