The Town of Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove is warning the public of deteriorating road conditions on Marine Drive.
The side of the road on the ocean side has slowly been falling away, making it unsafe for pedestrians to walk on.
The town is calling on the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, who own and maintain the road, to fix the shoulder of the road and reduce the risk to both walkers and drivers.
Mayor Denis Hickey says this is an issue the department has been aware of since 2019. He says they met with the minister at the time in November of that year, but there’s been little movement on the issue.
He says they heard from the department in August of 2020 that a project to rectify the situation would occur in 2021, but that hasn’t materialized.
He says it’s been three years since the problem arose and it’s only going to get worse unless government intervenes.
