The $600,000 dollars in total provided by the provincial government to help bring the NASCAR Pinty’s Series to Newfoundland and Labrador over the next three years came in for considerable debate in the House of Assembly yesterday.
The majority of those responding to VOCM’s Question of the Day yesterday—74 per cent—disagree with the funding provided for the event.
Opposition Leader David Brazil questioned Tourism Minister Steve Crocker and Premier Andrew Furey on the expenditure in light of shortages of health care professionals including doctors and nurses.
Brazil asked how many doctors could be hired for $600,000 dollars, while Furey shot back, referencing Muskrat Falls and drawing other members to join him in echoing the response by asking how many doctors and nurses can be hired and hospitals built for “$500 million dollars a year.”
