PC MHAs in the region say that Central Newfoundland is on the brink of a health care disaster. Five healthcare centers in the area are poised to lose their last physicians.
MHAs Pleaman Forsey and Chris Tibbs say that tens of thousands of people are set to lose their doctors between now and June. They say if basic medical services go away, family medicine will become inaccessible.
They are calling on the provincial government to take action in the area, and ensure central Newfoundland is not forgotten.
Former NLMA President Dr. Lynette Powell tweeted yesterday that, at one point, the emergency room at the hospital in Grand Falls-Windsor was jam-packed with people who were having to wait for a very long time.
Today in CentralNL:The ER is full of admitted patients. There is no space anywhere. Waiting room is cinched. Patients from 2 rural sites are waiting for virtual care. ER staff are demoralized. Patients are afraid. A system perilously close to collapse #nlpoli. #healthcarecrisis
