With hundreds of thousands of cases, Newfoundland and Labrador is near the peak of its current COVID wave, according to the province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says while the current peak in Omicron cases may be lasting a bit longer than previous variants, Public Health officials anticipate epidemiology to improve over the next few weeks.
Up to this point, Fitzgerald says there have been between 37,000 and 40,000 cases of the virus officially confirmed.
But she says the actual number of people who have COVID is probably 4 to 6 times greater, meaning the total number of infections could be around 200,000 people.
Yesterday, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald unveiled the province’s plan for the roll out of second COVID-19 booster shots.
