Veteran MHA Eddie Joyce suggests a report recommending he be suspended from the House of Assembly is payback for a lawsuit he’s filed in Supreme Court.
The latest report by the Commissioner for Legislative Standards, tabled Wednesday in the legislature, raps Joyce for failing to file required financial documents on time.
Bruce Chaulk’s report recommends Joyce be suspended from the House until he provides the information. But Joyce says he’s done that, adding he was one of many MHAs to file late, yet the only one to trigger a report and face suspension.
He says he’s never had an issue before, and suspects it’s linked to his lawsuit against Chaulk, former premier Dwight Ball and two MHAs.
Joyce says he’s been submitting his disclosure documents for 27 years with no problems. Yet, in the two years since he filed his lawsuit, he’s run into problems, adding people can draw their own conclusions from that.
Joyce’s lawsuit has to do with the handling of a harassment complaint that saw him booted from the Liberal cabinet and caucus four years ago.
The recommendation to suspend him from the House will be debated after the Easter break, which begins later today.
