A small group of plant workers are demonstrating today outside Icewater Seafoods in Arnold’s Cove in a dispute over paid holidays.
President of the FFAW Local 1, Brenda King says the company is not paying for Stat holidays and unionized or not, employees who work on Stat holidays should be paid accordingly.
King says Icewater is using the practice that if you don’t work the week leading up to the holiday, then you are not entitled to the holiday.
King says members thought that the issue was resolved in the last collective agreement, but it was not.
The matter says King is going to arbitration, with today’s demonstration designed to bring attention to the dispute.
