The RCMP in this province will be out on the highways in full force this Easter weekend as many head out to visit their friends and family.
Sergeant Matt Christie of the RCMP says they will have an increased presence on the roads this weekend, both day and night.
He says they will be looking for what he calls “the big four,” meaning drivers who are impaired, distracted, aggressive, and not wearing their seatbelts.
In terms of distracted driving, Christie says says what they’ve been seeing has changed over the years.
He says one time they used to see a lot of people with their phones up to their heads, but that’s not as common anymore. What they usually see now is people texting and driving with their heads down.
Christie also reminds drivers to be mindful of the weather conditions. He says some people may have their winter tires off, and they should be careful when driving to different areas of the province or driving in higher elevations as conditions can change.
