The Mayor of Carbonear is praising the effort to contain a fire in the historic downtown late last week.
The fire broke out around 7 p.m. Thursday, and the local fire department, along with the Victoria and Salmon Cove fire departments, worked to prevent the blaze from spreading.
The fire broke out in the building next to Cold Water Cafe, that used to be home to the old Main Street Restaurant.
Mayor Frank Butt says the response was top-notch.
He says there is a mutual aid agreement between the towns, that the fire departments train for such situations, and that they “passed the test.”
