A house in the centre city area of St. John’s has sustained significant damage following a fire late Thursday afternoon.
Crews were called to the scene on Smithville Crescent around 3:00 p.m.
According to St. John’s Regional, the homeowner was outside burning brush when the side of the house caught fire.
The blaze travelled up the side of the home and into the attic.
When firefighters arrived they found a neighbor had brought out their hose to try to help douse the flames.
Crews had to cut holes in the roof to gain access to the blaze.
