Fees are going up at the Royal St. John’s Regatta – and it could mean a big change at one of the most popular concession stands.
The committee is charging an extra ten per cent across the board for rowers and concessionaires including the beer tent, which is operated by the Kinsmen.
The group is upset by the extra costs and has told the committee that it will not be running the tent this year. Committee VP Bradley Power says their letter will be discussed at an executive meting tonight.
He noted that this will be the first increase for stand owners in five years, and that the increase amounts to about $400 for the Kinsmen. Power says the beer tent can make significant profits but, as with other stands, they can lose money as well if the weather doesn’t co-operate.
Regatta Day is Wednesday, Aug. 7.
