The recent resignation of the Mayor of Baie Verte over infrastructure work was raised on the floor of the House of Assembly.
Transportation critic Barry Petten put the question to Minister Elvis Loveless about what he calls the “pressure tactics” being used by government.
Petten says the town was told town infrastructure under the provincial road must be fixed before any repairs are made to the main highway which is in a serious state of disrepair.
Interim Mayor Brandon Philpott resigned in frustration over the back and forth with the department. Minister Elvis Loveless says he’s being prudent in ensuring that taxpayer money is well spent.
Minister Elvis Loveless says government is being responsible by asking for a blueprint of the town’s infrastructure under the road, something he’s still waiting on, indicating he doesn’t want to put pavement on the road until they have an understanding about whether or not other work might be needed. “Until I get that, we really can’t have a serious conversation of what we will invest in the town of Baie Verte,” says Loveless.
