Increased stress levels during the pandemic have led to more allergy outbreaks.
That’s according to a local pharmacist and owner of two Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacies, Keith Bailey.
Recent research has shown that heightened stress hormones increase the risk of allergy flare-ups, especially in those already suffering from allergies, as it accelerates and intensifies allergy symptoms.
While it can impact most types of allergies, seasonal allergies are often hit hard.
As it is seasonal allergy season, Bailey encourages people to get more rest and exercise and take more personal time to relax.
For outdoor allergies, Bailey encourages people to wear a hat, sunglasses and mask to combat pollen particles. For indoor allergies, he recommends closing windows while sleeping and washing clothes and bedclothes regularly.
