The RCMP in Marystown has seized a small number of prohibited knives from a store in the town, and are asking anyone who may have purchased them to turn them in to police.
Police say the knives were seized Tuesday from a store in the Peninsula Mall.
They say the owner of the business did not realize the knives were prohibited and cooperated fully with police.
In accordance with federal legislation, a prohibited knife is one “that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in or attached to the handle of the knife”.
The remaining inventory was turned over to police to be destroyed, and they are asking anyone who may have purchased one to turn it in to police.
Possession of such a knife is a criminal offense.
