The NDP has added its voice to the chorus of concern over a report that alleges a toxic culture of bullying and harassment at Elections NL.
PC Leader David Brazil and Independent MHA Paul Lane say they believe the report has been submitted to House Speaker Derek Bennett by citizens’ representative Bradley Moss—and that it targets Elections NL CEO Bruce Chaulk.
But they say that was two months ago, following an 8-to-9-month investigation, with no movement on it to date.
NDP Leader Jim Dinn says he wasn’t surprised to hear of such allegations, having heard similar rumblings during and after the pandemic election.
He says news now of complaints and a report, with no action on it, is even more than concerning.
Dinn says it’s time to clear the air, be transparent, be accountable, and get to the bottom of it. Otherwise, he said, there must be an answer as to whether there is or isn’t a report, and put an end to the issue.
More than 20 staff of Elections NL are believed to have made allegations of bullying, harassment, nepotism and an overall toxic workplace.
House Speaker Derek Bennett has refused to do interviews on the issue.
Neither Chaulk nor Moss have responded to emails from VOCM.
