A substantial housing development in the Pleasantville area of St. John’s is on city council’s radar today.
The proposal, by Charter Developments, would see 34 townhouses built on Churchill Avenue, which is near the Techniplex.
The city has received some concerns about the proposed development from area residents including the effect on housing aesthetics, impacts on the Virginia River walking trail, the river itself, trees and wildlife, and the loss of green space. However, the city says the area is not a green space and has been designated and zoned for residential development “for many years.”
As for the trail, the city explains that it mostly falls in the floodplain and its buffer area. However, any portion of the trail outside that area will need to be maintained.
If approval is given by city council, the application will move on to the next steps, which will involve the applicant submitting a detailed subdivision design plan to the city.
