St. John’s City Council has approved the next step toward building townhouses near a popular walking trail.
The original application proposed the building of numerous townhouses on Churchill Avenue, near the Virginia River Trail.
Some people are concerned about the potential impact on the trail and river, as well as wildlife such as foxes and brown trout. This includes Councilor Ian Froude who notes that the proposed building lots are very tight to the river.
Many, however, are excited about the project, including Councilor Sandy Hickman.
Hickman talks about how this is “the next step” in diverse housing in the province.
City council approved the application during yesterday’s regular meeting. The next step calls for a detailed design plan from the developer.
