The provincial government is implementing restorative justice programming into the school system.
The province is working with Dr. Dorothy Vaandering of Memorial University, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders to provide professional learning opportunities to teachers in how to adapt the curriculum to include restorative justice opportunities.
Education Minister Tom Osborne says they are working with the school districts to make restorative justice education more accessible in the K-12 system.
He says the updating of the curriculum is an ongoing process.
He says it takes two to three years to update a piece of curriculum, of which there are hundreds. He says by the time you get through those hundreds, it’s time to start again, so the process is never-ending.
