A woman trying to have something done about the rising cost of living has drawn up an online petition and is taking it a step further on the weekend.
Government is going to cut the provincial fuel tax in half and provide one-time subsidies to people who heat their homes with oil, but Leanne Pitcher says those moves don’t go nearly far enough.
Leanne’s Pitcher’s husband drives from Green’s Harbour, Trinity Bay for work, something which she says has put a real dent in their finances.
The petition has attracted about 7,500 people so far. She’s hoping for a good turnout at Confederation Building Saturday at 11:00 a.m. but knows that many people simply can’t afford to make the trek.
She’s calling on those who cannot attend to find a way to protest either through Facebook Live or standing near a roadway in their area to make their point.
