Two new research and innovation initiatives have been launched at Memorial University.
The Centre for Analytics, Informatics and Research, and the Accelerated Analytics and Machine Learning projects are led by Memorial with help from the federal and provincial governments and IBM Canada.

The centre will be equipped with powerful high-performance computers able to process huge amounts of complex data.
The projects were made possible through $18 million in joint funding from ACOA and the provincial government, making it possible for IBM to provide hardware, software and staffing for the next four years.
IBM Canada General Manager of Technology Frank Attaie says the company is committed to supporting and collaborating with Memorial and the federal and provincial governments to help improve Canada’s ability to innovate, address what he calls a “critical skills gap,” and drive research and innovation.
He says IBM is providing “a pretty significant cluster” of computing assets, to allow researchers to efficiently do the “computational crunching” needed.
