A group of Placentia area residents fed up with the state of roads in the region, will be greeting Nascar racers as they arrive in the province in the coming days with a friendly apology and message to government.
Ray Murphy of the Route 100 Road Improvement Committee, has been working for years to get some attention for area roads. He says the Argentia Access Road, which is one of the province’s key road entrances, is in a state of disrepair.
Just this week, Murphy says, road crews have slapped a bit of asphalt on cracks and potholes, apparently in anticipation of arriving racers, but the road is in greater need of attention.
He says arriving drivers will be greeted by area residents holding signs, apologizing to tourists about the condition of the road, and pointing the finger at government for not doing enough.
Murphy says the Argentia Access needs to be maintained to the same level as the Veteran’s Memorial or Pitts Memorial.
