The Basilica and some of its surrounding buildings, including St. Bonaventure’s College, have been bought by a joint bid committee, and they are revealing some of their future plans for the structures.
It was revealed that the bid committee was successful in its attempt to buy the structures earlier this week, with a price tag somewhere north of $3 million.
Chair of the Board for St. Bons and committee member Rob Blackie says he’s elated that the group has purchased the buildings.
Their goal is to preserve the buildings, but as Blackie explains they also plan to enhance what the buildings are used for.
He says The Basilica will be home to a couple of local parishes as their places of worship. As well, people can expect to see the historic church opened up more—allowing groups such as Shalloway to use the space.
For St. Bons, Blackie says there are great opportunities to improve the infrastructure there for things like athletics and public music spaces.
