Residents in Port aux Basques are calling for justice following a horrific case of reported animal cruelty.
RCMP are investigating and say charges are anticipated after a pet cat was allegedly killed with an axe in a home.
Nancy told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly the case which dates to September 10, has people questioning animal abuse laws.
She says our animal abuse laws across Canada have not been updated in over 100 years. Nancy says they want to get the word out that these laws need to be changed and something needs to be done. She says how can an animal be brutally killed in it’s own home and no charge are laid.
Nancy says vigils are planned across the island Friday evening.
