Leo Crockwell continues to thumb his nose at the law, delaying his own potential release from jail.
Crockwell is facing serious charges of assaulting two RCMP officers last Friday night in Witless Bay.
He’s been in custody since then, displaying the same distrust and disregard for the law that he’s famous for.
That goes back to the 2010 Bay Bulls standoff, when he kept the Mounties at bay for 8 days before giving them the slip, but was later arrested by the RNC.
Now 67, Crockwell is clearly upset that he’s back in jail, but is also doing nothing to help his cause for release. He has refused a psychiatric assessment and won’t leave his cell for a bail hearing.
Instead, his appearances have so far been over the phone from the city lockup.
Yesterday, Judge James Walsh offered Crockwell options to seek release, but that was met with rants about his Charter rights, and claims that it would be held in “an inferior court.”
That court will try again this afternoon to coax Crockwell from his cell for a bail hearing.
