The provincial government has announced the next steps for development of wind energy in the province.
In April, the province lifted a 15-year-old moratorium on such projects. Now, they’re accepting expressions of interest for wind projects on Crown land.
There’s no limit on geographic size or the number of submissions, which must be received by October 1st.
That’s expected to be followed by a call for land bids in mid-December.
Energy Minister Andrew Parsons says the potential for the industry can’t be overstated.
He says development of wind as a resource in this province is long overdue, noting it’s recognized as “best in class” by potential players and investors.
Global interest in the province’s wind resource has been on bust in the last year, with countries such as Germany kicking the tires toward producing ammonia and green hydrogen, as they move to replace dependence on Russian oil and gas.
Pursuing wind generation was a commitment made in the government’s recently released Renewable Energy Plan.
