The strike by Mount Pearl municipal workers is entering its third week with no resolution in sight.
Both the City of Mount Pearl and CUPE Local 2099 say negotiations are at a standstill, with so far neither side budging from their positions.
There’s also growing tension around alleged disrespectful conduct on the picket line.
Mayor Dave Aker says the RNC has been called when non-picketing workers have been prevented from entering City Hall.
And he says a recent incident in which the city flag was lowered to half-mast was disrespectful.
Meanwhile, union president Ken Turner says the picketing has been “above board.”
He says the union would have been contacted by police if there were unlawful actions on the picket line.
Turner describes some of the city’s allegations as “outlandish rhetoric” that’s blocking a deal from getting done.
