The President of the NunatuKavut Community Council says he can live with the decision to not rename Colonial Building, so long as Indigenous history is properly represented at the site.
Todd Russell says his mindset through the consultation process was that if the name is kept the history behind it needs to be contextualized so people understand what went on inside that building.
There is movement on that front as government has stated that there will be a consultation process with Indigenous groups on what that could look like.
Russell says he wants NunatuKavut to be part of those conversations.
He says how the Indigenous story, and specifically the story of the NunatuKavut Inuit, are captured will be an important part of those discussions.
