A dangerous marine creature has been spotted on a beach on the southern Avalon Peninsula. It’s believed to be a Portuguese Man O’ War with potentially deadly tentacles.

Its venom can be lethal so anyone who sees such a creature should stay far away and contact DFO.

The creature, which resembles a jellyfish, is native to tropical and subtropical waters of the Atlantic, floats at the surface with a gas filled bladder and tendrils that trail under water.

The creatures tend to move in groups so it’s important to follow the advice to stay clear and not to touch them.
