The Town of Port aux Basques is encouraged by the opportunities presented by green energy.

A proposed wind farm project for the Port au Port Peninsula and Lewis Hills area is generating a great deal of controversy but the town of Channel-Port aux Basques is open to exploring green energy development options.

Mayor Brian Button says the town has been approached by a number of companies interested in a variety of green energy developments. The most promising is Perth, Australia-based Fortescue Future Industries which is currently operating in 25 countries. Button says the company is interested in green hydrogen, green ammonia and geothermal technology development in the region.

Button says the town of Channel-Port aux Basques is “at the table” and is part of the process to see where it goes.
